The ability to make quick and correct decisions during a game is a skill that takes time to develop. As a coach if you do not have a good foundation or connection with your players it can be hard to take the position of leader without their respect for you. Friendships with your players can produce different actions that you would not have done if you were making your decisions on skill and talent alone.
Lastly, the vision of the coach is the ticket to a winning rugby game. As a coach you should be able to take a look at your players and the players you intend to play with in the near future and play towards your team's strengths to prey on the opponent's weaknesses. Making good plays, creating optimal lines, teaching the skills of good rugby and utilizing break downs should all be apart of your coaching vision.
